It's been some time since I have read an Amanda Ashley book. For some reason paranormals just were not capturing my attention. Well, I received Night's Kiss in the mail last week and decided it was about time to read another Amanda Ashley since I enjoyed her Dead Perfect book so much. You can read what I though about Dead Perfect here.
Night's Kiss is the first in an ongoing series. It encompasses the tale of Roshan DeLongpre and Brenna Flanagan. Roshan is inflicted with the Dark Gift and has been roaming the earth as a vampire for 300 years. He has decided to end his loneliness with the morning sun. That is until he comes across a picture of Brenna Flanagan in one of his ancient books on witchcraft. The picture shows Brenna being burned at the stake for being a witch. He is intrigued by her and decides to investigate further into her life. It is not easy since she existed over 300 years ago. He soon realizes that he can't let her die that way, so he discovers a way to travel back in time to rescue her and bring her to this century.
Now in this modern world, Brenna has to learn to adjust to living in a time vastly different from her own. Roshan is so taken with her innocence and sense of wonder that he is blinded to a growing danger to both of them. There is someone out there that knows who they both are and wants their power for his own.
I enjoyed this story and was drawn into the developing relationship between Roshan and Brenna. The suspense in the story kept me captivated and wanting to turn the pages to see what would happen next. However, there were two things that bothered me and caused me to give a lower rating. I didn't like how fast Brenna became accoustomed to the present. I mean she was born over 300 years ago - but it takes her no time to learn how to cook with a microwave and stove. It took her no time at all to learn how to drive a car. However, it was fun to read how indoor plumbing fascinated her. The other part I didn't care for was the epilogue. I don't know why - it just didn't seem plausible. So many things happened to wrap up the story - and things fell too neatly into place. I wish it had just ended with the last chapter. However, I do understand why it ended the way it did - it was needed to have a starting point for the second book in the series.
That being said, I did enjoy the story. It grabbed my attention and kept it until the end. Even though there were a couple of things I didn't care for - I am anxiously wanting to read the next in the series.
