This book was recommended by some friends of mine over at Mystery Readers Cafe. And I absolutely fell in love with this series. Agatha Raisin is a fifty-three-year-old woman who decides to retire to the English Cotswolds. Being a woman who has no charm, bullies and wheedles to get her own way, and has an expertise in emotional blackmail, she soon comes to realize that retirement isn't all that great. She doesn't attract much interest among the villagers.
So, she decides to enter the village's Great Quiche Competition and plans to win! The fact that she has never baked in her life doesn't stop her. She goes to London and buys a quiche and enters it as her own. She is stunned when she doesn't win, but worse than that, the judge drops dead from poison that is traced back to her "homemade" spinach quiche.
She becomes the talk of the town, but not how she imagined it. In an effort to clear her name, she turns to amateur sleuth.
This book is full of quirky characters, witty dialogue, and an eccentric sleuth. I fell in love with Agatha and her gruff, no-holds-barred manner. She speaks her mind, tells others what she thinks of them, and accomplishes what she sets her mind to. I can't wait to read the next in the series.
